Video 004 - Chicken Soup for the Soul

[Filtered away from Subaru Sumeragi:

Have an image of a large metal pot with the bottom burned through and slight blackened. And now have another image of a young man looking at said pot with disdain. Nearby is the charred remains of what looked like kitchen utensils and maybe a cookbook, which seems burned the most as if out of frustration the book was cast into the flames. But the kitchen in the background managed to look quite impeccable despite what was in front of him.]

...who knows how to make soup? Anything to help cure a cold? Also if anyone knows where medicine is available, I want that information too.

[Filtered to Serenity]...I owe you a pot, among other things.

[He laughed lightly]

Because then the pot will boil over, the water will get all over the sides of the stove and burn. The taste of the broth will be bad and overcooked.

It's like tea.

If you steep a green tea at too high a heat, it will become brown and bitter tasting.

So you have to make sure the broth is cooking low and slow so that it gets the best taste and doesn't create a huge mess.

...I see. [ He didn't think of that.Maybe one of Serenity's pots could have been spared if he would have known.]

So what's next?

Action

[identity profile] bound-canary.livejournal.com 2011-11-15 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Well, we can salt and pepper the chicken and put it into the refrigerator until the broth is done. Then all we have left is straining the broth into another pot, throwing away the remains, then doing the final steps of the soup.

[He washes his hands first before touching anything else then gets out the salt and pepper.]

[identity profile] seishiromustdie.livejournal.com 2011-11-15 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Okay. [Washing his hands too. Nothing wrong with being cleanly.]
I didn't think cooking was so complicated.

Action

[identity profile] bound-canary.livejournal.com 2011-11-15 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
[He thinks about that for a moment.]

It is, but at the same time it's not too bad.

There are a lot of similar rules and it just takes practice.

It's when you get into gourmet cooking and the art of culinary techniques that it can get complicated. Like flavor profiles and different ways to cut things.

Baking is a chemistry all on its own.

But the basics aren't hard at all.

I don't think I have the patience for it.

I just want it to be done fast. It's like a chore, not something you can involve yourself and have fun. I don't think cooking is my thing.

[He laughs lightly]

Frying things is fast.

But it's not everyone's thing.

A long time ago, my close friend and I turned it into a competition!

Frying? Fast? [ You may have pique his interest, Takuma.]

Action

[identity profile] bound-canary.livejournal.com 2011-11-15 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
There's stir-fry where you just cut up some vegetables, meat of your choice, some sauce, put it in a skillet and toss it until it's cooked and you're done!

Then of course deep-frying where you flour, panko, or bread crumb coat something, put it in some really hot oil and wait for it to become a golden brown and then you're finished!

[identity profile] seishiromustdie.livejournal.com 2011-11-15 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
Those sound pretty easy. [Considering trying both when he's hungry and not feeling up to going outside.]

You'll have to show me how to make those another time.

Action

[identity profile] bound-canary.livejournal.com 2011-11-15 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
I definitely will! Those aren't hard at all!

[He waves him over.]

We should sit and chat while we wait.

[Follows, it's better than standing around.]

Have you settled in yet?

Action

[identity profile] bound-canary.livejournal.com 2011-11-15 07:54 am (UTC)(link)
[He nodded]

I'm living with D again in our old house. I haven't found a place to work, yet, but I'm taking my time with that. It seems people are more in need of me at the moment.

There's no need to rush.

[Kamui didn't ask the other about the who needed him and for what. It wasn't his business.]

I still have it, your sword. If you want it back you can have it. Especially that trunk of all those weird things.

Action

[identity profile] bound-canary.livejournal.com 2011-11-15 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah! Really?! You kept it all this time?

[He smiles brightly.]

Thank you, Kamui. That...that means a lot to me!

I'll relieve you of it. Somarium is pretty unpredictable. Who knows when I'll need to use it, right?

Action

[identity profile] seishiromustdie.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
You thought I would throw it away? [Although he had considered it. To Kamui it was a trunk full of junk, but maybe to Takuma, it was treasure.]

I don't see how any of it can come in handy. But if it means so much to you, then I guess it has some kind of personal value.

Action

[identity profile] bound-canary.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
[He let out a chuckle.]

I more meant the katana. I'm sure my old collection is still impractical, but it was fun to gather together.

[If Kamui can tell, some of Takuma's whimsy has slipped away from him. In a way, he is a lot more mature in a good way. But at the same time, it's probably disheartening to see some of it gone.]

Action

[identity profile] seishiromustdie.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
You can have both back. I have no need for swords.

[Of course, Kamui has noticed and he wondered how much time had passed since he's last been here. Or even if time had anything to do with the newly gained maturity.]

Is it a hobby of yours to collect things?

Action

[identity profile] bound-canary.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you, Kamui.

[He nodded.]

It was.

Action

[identity profile] bound-canary.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't been able to collect anything in such a long time that I don't know if I enjoy it anymore.

I'm sure I would, but to the degree of what I used to...

I used to have shelves upon shelves of random objects. I don't know if I would do that again.

Action

[identity profile] seishiromustdie.livejournal.com 2011-11-18 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
I understand. I guess that happens to everyone.

...I had a hobby once. I used to be fascinated by wings.

Action

[identity profile] seishiromustdie.livejournal.com 2011-11-19 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
...Yes. But I liked all kinds. Especially, angel and demon wings.

[Kamui makes a gesture to his necklace which features one angel wing and a demonic one.]

I always thought they were a reflection of my brother and me. A pair, unique individually, but able to do amazing things together.

Action

[identity profile] bound-canary.livejournal.com 2011-11-19 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
[He looks down at the necklaces. He didn't know that Kamui could be so symbolic. One learns something new everyday.]

May I touch them?
