[Filtered away from Subaru Sumeragi:
Have an image of a large metal pot with the bottom burned through and slight blackened. And now have another image of a young man looking at said pot with disdain. Nearby is the charred remains of what looked like kitchen utensils and maybe a cookbook, which seems burned the most as if out of frustration the book was cast into the flames. But the kitchen in the background managed to look quite impeccable despite what was in front of him.]
...who knows how to make soup? Anything to help cure a cold? Also if anyone knows where medicine is available, I want that information too.
[Filtered to Serenity]...I owe you a pot, among other things.

Date: 2011-11-14 04:47 am (UTC)And yes, I'm currently here.
[Video]-> Action
Date: 2011-11-14 04:59 am (UTC)[Soon enough there's a knock on Serenity's door where a sparklepire is waiting for his not!bro.]
Action
Date: 2011-11-14 05:08 am (UTC)...the kitchen is this way.
Action
Date: 2011-11-14 05:10 am (UTC)Let's get cooking then!
How many people are we cooking for?
Action
Date: 2011-11-14 05:26 am (UTC)Ideally I want it to last for a while, though.
Action
Date: 2011-11-14 05:29 am (UTC)What are they more partial to? Chicken soup? Miso? Udon? Vegetable?
[When he gets to the kitchen, he rolls up his sleeves and washes his hands.]
Action
Date: 2011-11-14 05:33 am (UTC)...Well he's Japanese. So Miso or Udon would be best, right?
Action
Date: 2011-11-14 05:38 am (UTC)If you keep the noodles in the broth, they'll get soggy and lose their nice texture.
Action
Date: 2011-11-14 06:05 am (UTC)What will we need?
Action
Date: 2011-11-14 06:17 am (UTC)Flour, water, and salt for the noodles.
Then for the broth, soy sauce, water, uhm....mirin...katsuboshi,dashi and...something else. I can't remember exactly.
And we can add any vegetable, really.
Do you have a cookbook for Japanese dishes?
Action
Date: 2011-11-14 06:46 am (UTC)The vampire went looking for the other ingredients Takuma mentioned. Opening the cupboards was kind of like walking into uncharted territory.]
Japanese cookbook? Maybe Serenity has one.
Action
Date: 2011-11-14 06:49 am (UTC)How about we just do a simple chicken soup? It can last a while and it's not hard. Hahaha...
We'll need onions, celery, carrots, and chicken.
Action
Date: 2011-11-14 06:58 am (UTC)The brunette managed to get the ingredients, finding them easily.]
...Now what?
Action
Date: 2011-11-14 07:04 am (UTC)We fill the pot about a little less than two thirds of the pot and set that to boil.
Then we break down the chicken. We just cut it up and used the bones and such for the stock. Then we chop up the vegetables and use some for the stock and some for the actual soup!
That's what we should start on first.
[He twirls a knife over his hand, being skilled with blades.]
You cut the vegetables into large pieces and I'll break down the chicken!
Action
Date: 2011-11-15 01:46 am (UTC)[Taking up a knife,he starts to chop the vegetables. He knew he could that much.]
Action
Date: 2011-11-15 02:25 am (UTC)Okay, you see all of these unwanted parts of the chicken? That all goes into the pot along with some of the vegetables that you cut up.
[He picks up his chicken bits and places them in the pot.]
Action
Date: 2011-11-15 02:34 am (UTC)He finishes off his vegetables, showing them to Takuma.]
Done. Do I just put them in the pot?
Action
Date: 2011-11-15 02:58 am (UTC)Yes! Then we let it stew for a couple of hours on a lower heat so that all of the flavor can absorb into the water.
Action
Date: 2011-11-15 03:08 am (UTC)[And this is the trouble he ran in to earlier.]
Action
Date: 2011-11-15 03:14 am (UTC)Because then the pot will boil over, the water will get all over the sides of the stove and burn. The taste of the broth will be bad and overcooked.
It's like tea.
If you steep a green tea at too high a heat, it will become brown and bitter tasting.
So you have to make sure the broth is cooking low and slow so that it gets the best taste and doesn't create a huge mess.
Action
Date: 2011-11-15 03:23 am (UTC)So what's next?
Action
Date: 2011-11-15 03:28 am (UTC)[He washes his hands first before touching anything else then gets out the salt and pepper.]
Action
Date: 2011-11-15 03:56 am (UTC)I didn't think cooking was so complicated.
Action
Date: 2011-11-15 04:05 am (UTC)It is, but at the same time it's not too bad.
There are a lot of similar rules and it just takes practice.
It's when you get into gourmet cooking and the art of culinary techniques that it can get complicated. Like flavor profiles and different ways to cut things.
Baking is a chemistry all on its own.
But the basics aren't hard at all.
Action
Date: 2011-11-15 05:06 am (UTC)I just want it to be done fast. It's like a chore, not something you can involve yourself and have fun. I don't think cooking is my thing.
